Children's Department
The Accelerated Reader program combines technology and research to motivate and increase a child's independent reading. The program is simple: the child either reads (or has read to him/her) a book from the Accelerated Reader book list. The child then takes a computerized test on the book, answering multiple choice questions that check the child's recall of facts and events in the book. After finishing the test, the child receives a point score based on the difficulty level of the book and the number of quesions he/she answers correctly. The computer keeps track of each student's points, reading level, and test percentages. This becomes valuable information for teachers, as well as the basis for various rewards at school.
The Satilla Regional Library has paper copies of current AR lists in its libraries, but some schools have their AR lists online so you can check them from home. If you want a book on your school AR list that our library system does not own, we can easily place a PINES hold for you.
